Missing Liesl

Well even though Liesl is still in Utah she has spent the last couple of days visiting with Laurel & Roine’s family and with Karen. Tyra was SO sad when we didn’t bring Liesl back to our house after the Easter dinner at Laurel & Roine’s house. Well today Ethan, Tyra and Jeremy were fighting over who got to cuddle with the pillow and blanket that Liesl used while she was at our house “because they smell like Liesl”:

When they saw me pull out the camera for a picture they all smiled, then went back to arguing over who got the pillow and blanket. Tyra and Jeremy were willing to each share a corner of the blanket, but Ethan wanted both the pillow and the blanket ALL to himself. Earlier, Ethan came out of his room announcing that he was praying that Liesl would be able to come back and spend more time with them. They are so cute. We love you Liesl. 😀

The Atonement and Resurrection of Jesus Christ “52 Weeks of Family Night” Lesson 9

Opening Song: Childrens Songbook pg 64 “Did Jesus Really Live Again?”

Opening Prayer: Kyle

Scripture: Luke 24:1-6

“1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.

2 And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.

3 And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.

4 And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:

5 And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?

6 He is not here, but is risen…”

Lesson: For our lesson this week, we showed various pictures from the Gospel Art Picture kit (GAPK) and described what was happening. We started with “The Last Supper” (GAPK 225): Here Jesus ate the last supper with his 12 Apostles and prepared the first sacrament. Teaching them that the bread was to represent His body, and the wine (or water) is to represent His blood which He shed for us.

“Jesus Washing the Apostles’ Feet” (GAPK 226): After eating the last supper with his apostles, Jesus proceeded to wash their feet. We asked the kids why Jesus washed the Apostles’ feet, and discussed it, and decided that He washed their feet because He loves them, and wanted to serve them and set a good example to them so they would serve each other.

“Jesus Praying in Gethsemane” (GAPK 227): Here Jesus is praying in the garden of Gethsemane to atone for the sins of the world. Jesus suffered for all the sins of every person to ever live. An angel appeared from heaven “strengthening him. And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground” (Luke 22:43-44).

“The Betrayal of Jesus” (GAPK 228): Judas betrays Jesus to a large group of men that had been sent by the chief priests. But after wards he is sad.

“The Crucifixion” (GAPK 230): Jesus was crucified and died for man. He willingly gave His life, nobody took it from Him. He had the power to save Himself had He wanted to, but He knew why He why He was on earth, and He knew that it was His mission to die for mankind.

“Burial of Jesus” (GAPK 231): Some friends of Jesus took his body and laid him in a borrowed tomb.

“Mary and the Resurrected Lord” (GAPK 233): Mary came to the tomb on the first day of the week to help prepare Jesus’ body for a proper burrial, but found Him gone and was sad. But then Jesus appeared and asked her why she was crying, and when she turned and saw Him she was so happy. (John 20:10-18)

“Jesus Shows His Wounds” (GAPK 234): Later Jesus appeared to His Apostles and showed them the wounds that the nails left on his hands, wrists and feet to show them that He really had been crucified, and really was alive again.

We celebrate Easter every year, to celebrate the fact that Jesus was resurrected and that He lives. And because He lives we have the opportunity to live again as well.

Closing Song: Children’s Songbook pg 34 “He Sent His Son”

Closing Prayer: Tyra

Easter morning

Well I woke up first thing this morning, hoping to wake up before the kids, so they couldn’t go out and find eggs or check out the Easter baskets until everyone was awake. I also woke Kyle up and suggested he take his shower before the kids wake up so that we would have a chance at getting to church on time (church starts at 9 am), but he decided to sleep a little longer. Well I went into the bathroom to get dressed, and when I came out I saw Tyra coming back from the living room all excited. I told her to sit down in the hall and wait for everyone else to wake up and then I went back to my room to wake Kyle up and tell him that the kids are waking up now and now he has to wake up too. So he got up and the other kids were waking up and coming out of their rooms. Here they are waiting for Kyle to get the camera before being given the ‘ok’ to go hunt for the eggs:

You can see that they’ve already found a couple of the eggs in their rooms. Dinah found an egg that the Easter bunny had left in Tyra’s shoe and she decided she was just going to use that as a basket for collecting more. 😉

The kids found all the eggs pretty quickly and checked out their Easter baskets a bit. I was sick of the Easter bunny leaving a ton of candy, so I told him to tone down the candy a bit and maybe leave a toy and a little bit of candy instead of nothing but candy. And I was glad the Easter bunny listened to my request. 😉 Ethan and Jeremy each got a transformer, and Tyra got a couple outfits for her ken doll, and Dinah got a mermaid barbie. Since Liesl was staying with us, the Easter bunny left her some seeds so she can try to have a garden this year (even if it’s just in pots). And the Easter bunny had heard that Kyle has been trying to eat healthier, and lose weight so in addition to the normal couple of candies that he leaves, he left Kyle a bag of carrots 😉

Then I insisted that it was time to get dressed for church. So down the hall we went to get dressed. And then since church starts so early I hussled the kids into the kitchen for breakfast while Kyle took his shower (I told him she should have done it before the kids woke up 😛 ). We ate breakfast and then I insisted that it was time to get in the car to go to church, and surprisingly we got there EARLY. That almost never happens even on a normal Sunday. I was SO excited that we had had such a fun morning, doing all of the Easter traditions, and we all got ready, AND we were at church early enough to listen to prelude music before the meeting started. It was awesome!

Coloring eggs

This morning we tried going to an egg hunt at a park, but we got there late and all the eggs had already been found and everyone was already leaving. So we came back home and got ready to color our own eggs.

The kids had so much fun and we only had one egg drop, which out of 38 eggs, is really good. (As always, there are more photos posted in the photo gallery.)

Liesl is here for a visit

The kids have been so excited this week, anticipating the arrival of Kyle’s sister, Liesl. We went last night to the airport to pick her up, and all the way home Tyra was just so excited and talking Liesl’s ear off. It was so funny. And when Liesl pulled out her iphone to send a message to Ian that she had arrived Ethan was just so interested in her little gadget and was leaning over her shoulder to watch everything she was doing.
