Apple Mint Jam Canning Class

A few ladies from my ward came over tonight to learn how to make my yummy apple mint jam. Hey I had apples, my neighbor had mint and so all I had to buy for the class was canning jars. 😉 There hadn’t been much publicity for the class at church so in the end only 3 sisters came, but hey they got to learn how to make apple mint jam using my own special recipe (check out our recipe blog for the recipe).

Here’s Sister Dow peeling and coring apples.

Here’s Sister Campbell removing the peel left behind by the apple peeler, and cutting off the yucky parts of the apples.

And here’s Sister Graham putting the fresh mint leaves in a cloth bag.

Crazy morning

What a morning! I had the troops outside and we were on our way to the school. Just a couple houses away from ours, one of Ethan’s training wheels popped off. He was fine until he noticed it was gone, then he fell over. He was freaking out. I was trying to tell him that I know he can ride the bike without the training wheels. He kept going after it popped off. He was fine until he looked back and saw it gone. He only fell off about 4-5 times on the way to the school, which isn’t very much. He got mad at me for trying tell him that he can ride without it. He kept turning around and telling me not to say a word. 🙁 By the time that we got in front of the school Ethan’s friend Jacob had caught up with us. He could see that Ethan was upset, and so sweetly asked him what was wrong. So Ethan explained the situation, and Jacob says “I can ride without training wheels, can’t you?” like he had never even noticed that Ethan’s bike still has training wheels on it. He was very caring and helped Ethan walk his bike to the bike racks at the back of the school. I’m so glad Ethan has a friend that cares about him.

Then we continued to the kindergarten yard. Jeremy and Dinah like to play while we wait for the bell to ring. Once the bell rings Tyra lines up and I start rounding the others up. Jeremy came to the stroller, but I had to go get Dinah. So I picked her up and put her in the stroller and we headed home. We get all the way home, and I pull Dinah out of the stroller, and notice that she has no shoes on her feet. Great she kicked them off somewhere between here and the school. Ok load the stroller back up and back down the street we go. We get to the end of our street and still no sign of her shoes. Ok I don’t let her play on the playground without shoes, I’m SURE she had them on. So we continue on our way towards the school looking for them. We get to the front of the school and I’m wondering if someone had picked them up and taken them to the office, but we’ll just go look in the kindergarten yard first. Sigh, there they were. Right where the stroller had been when I put Dinah in it. She kicked her shoes off right then and there, because she was mad that I took her off the playground and put her in the stroller. Had I tripped on them I would have noticed them before getting out of the kindergarten yard. But I didn’t trip on them, and I don’t generally watch the ground as I walk so I didn’t even see them there, until we went all the way home, and had to go all the way back.

It’s been a crazy morning.

Picking Apples

CIMG2312

We went to Kyle’s mom’s house to pick the apples from her tree. Since Laurel went over and trimmed the tree down in the spring, it’s about half the size it was last year, and there were less apples. But that’s ok since the tree was getting so tall that it was quite interesting having me climb up in the tree last year to get them.

Of course right as we were going out to pick, Chloe decided that she was hungry so Kyle got started picking while I fed her. And he was just about done by the time I got over there, so I helped him finish up. The kids were having fun running around picking grapes, some got eaten and some made it into the bags that Granny gave them to collect grapes in.

Pretty Bows

My mom used to make bows for my sisters and I when we were little, and I had never made hair bows before but I thought it would be nice to make a set of bows for Tyra to wear on her first day of school. So I looked online for some instructions and went out and bought some supplies and got started. And I must say that I like what I’ve made so far. 😀

Tyra is excited about her new bows. I have no idea why she is making that goofy face though….
