Father Daughter Bowling

As the leader of my girl scout troop, I decided that I wanted to have a father-daughter activity this year. We do a few family activities throughout the year, and we have a mother-daughter cabin trip every summer and I thought it was about time that we should invite the dads to attend an activity with their daughters. I found some cute father-daughter bowling patches and so we decided to take them bowling. Here are some pictures of my girls with their dad:

Apparently Dinah wasn’t with Kyle when I took these pictures. You can see just part of her legs and her feet in the second one…

Here’s a shot of Kyle when it was his turn:

We had about half of my girl scout dads show up with their girls today. I’m kind of sad that more of them weren’t there. But it was our first time ever doing something like this and I hope we will get a better turnout next year. 🙂

Girl Scout Investiture

We had our Girl Scout investiture at the pavilion at our old stake center. We tried to get there early to get set up, but we didn’t get there as early as I would have liked.

Chloe and Dinah got to recite the Girl Scout law with the group of daisies. Then Chloe, since she is a new daisy this year, got to plant a seed of one of the daisy flower friends.

Tyra got to participate in a short candle ceremony with the juniors. The wind made it impossible to actually light the candles though. The wind also kept knocking the flags over.

Our program was nice and short (I think a couple of the families appreciated that), and our refreshments were provided by the girls. I think the girls really enjoy being responsible for the treats once in awhile, and they like to show off what they brought to all the other girls. We mingled awhile while we ate refreshments. Kyle and I kept picking up the trash and putting it in the van (we should have taken a trash bag with but totally didn’t even think of that).

While I was talking to someone, I noticed Lydia off in the field holding her dress up above her waist as she peed. I had to go tell Kyle about it, and a few others noticed and pointed it out to me like I hadn’t already noticed. We have been working on potty training with her and obviously she needed to go, but there weren’t any bathrooms at the pavilion. So wetting herself meant it was time for our family to go home so we could get her taken care of.

Chloe’s 5th Birthday

Today is Chloe’s fifth birthday! We spent the morning in town running some errands, and so I didn’t have time to make her a cake. We had a dentist appointment, and we went to the toy store. We went to McDonalds for lunch, and the last errand we ran before coming home was to pick up some plants to put in our vegetable garden at a nursery just down the street from where Kyle works. I stopped to pick Kyle up from work first so he could be with us when we decided what we were getting for the garden. We got lots of plants, tomato plants, onion, rhubarb and more. The kids also picked out a cute bug garden decoration, then it was time to head home. So I took Kyle back to his place of work so he could get his car, and I headed home with the kids.

After getting home, and unloading the kids from the van, I got all the plants unloaded and set on the porch. The kids had taken some of the other purchases into the house, and began playing. We hadn’t been home very long when I heard an awful sound, and Chloe began crying frantically. It turns out that Lydia was swinging the bug garden decoration around and one of the bug’s wings cut Chloe right between the eyes!

Here is the bug, with it’s nice, thin wings (which are made of metal btw).

Sigh. I really didn’t want to take her in to get stitches. I was afraid that stitches might leave an even bigger scar, than would be left if we tried to take care of it ourselves. So I superglued the cut closed, or at least I tried my best to glue it closed without gluing my fingers to her face. The bug decoration went into the front yard, since after it had been used to cause an owie like that I just couldn’t put it in the backyard. I just know that the kids would have just played with it some more when I let them out to play. Then after Kyle got home we proceeded with celebrating her birthday.

Upgrading Car Seats

I’ve been feeling it’s about time for a car seat upgrade. The car seats that we have had Chloe and Lydia in are at least 9 or 10 years old. Chloe is old enough and heavy enough for a booster seat now and Adam is out of leg room sitting rear facing and he is rather squished in the infant seat. So we went out today and bought Chloe a booster seat, and bought new car seats for Adam and Lydia.

Adam was really excited to check out the new seat while it was in the house and we were adjusting straps.

Here is the arrangement of the van with the old car seats. In case you can’t tell, that’s two forward facing seats, with the infant seat in between on the front row.

Here’s a view of the van with all the new seats.

The kids were all so excited to sit in their new seats that we decided to have movie night in the car. We put on “Emperors New Groove” and went for a drive, so they could ride in their new car seats.

Dental Work Galore

Today we spent a couple of hours at the dentist. Every kid needed work of some kind. Chloe, Dinah and Tyra all had cavities. Jeremy needed sealants. And Ethan needed two teeth pulled. Apparently these are baby teeth that the dentist has been waiting for them to fall out on their own since at least our last visit six months ago, and they just aren’t coming out on their own. The adult tooth, is actually coming in and pushing on the baby teeth and they are falling out one piece at a time instead of in one whole piece. I asked the dentist to somehow label the teeth and mark them so the tooth fairy knows which is which, and he put them in these little boxes for us:

Yes tooth “J” is in three pieces. This next picture is rather blurry, but that upper tooth surrounded by the red tissue, is the adult tooth that was crumbling the baby teeth. It’s totally already quite a ways out, and those baby teeth were just refusing to budge!
