Our great-uncle died

P1010541

My nana’s big brother, our Uncle Teddy, died on Thursday.  I don’t remember too much about him (only met him a few times when I was young, and recently when his son Ralph died), but I hear he was a fun person, and loved entertaining people with his ventriloquism.  It makes me sad to see that generation go.  Now we have our wonderful Aunt Gail, and their brother Monroe (whom I’ve never met, but heard stories of), left from that generation!

Anyway, I heard he died in the morning, but don’t know more details.  If anyone knows, help us update out family history site with the time and place, ok? 🙂

Saturday’s Weed Pulling Progress

We pulled more weeds today. Kyle spent the morning pulling weeds in the snow, while I made apple jam inside trying to finish canning these apples. He cleared the whole west side of the house of the weeds all the way to the first garden box on the West side of the yard. I went out this afternoon to work on pulling more weeds, and here is the progress:CIMG1328

About half the backyard has been cleared now, and today’s pile is a lot larger than Tuesday’s pile. Even Ethan went out to help some. He helped Kyle a bit and he helped me move plucked weeds to the big pile 🙂

Yucky Weeds!

Well we got a letter from our HOA like last week saying we need to clear the weeds from the west side of the house in 10 days from the date of the letter, or they will come out and do it for us, and charge us for it. 🙁 And today a man from the city came over to say we have till Oct 20th to clear the weeds from the entire backyard or we will fined $50/day. 🙁 So double pressure. Kyle is almost never home, so it’s pretty much up to me to get these weeds pulled! So I am feeling more than a little bit overwhelmed right now.

Halloween tree

We put up our Halloween tree this week and just finished decorating it today. We tried looking around at the different stores to find another strand of purple lights, since the orange ones overpower them. But we couldn’t find purple lights that matched the ones we already have 🙁 Oh well, we’ll try again next year. But now it’s finished and has the cute little pumpkins on it, and we even have a strand of yellow lights on the tree so when Halloween is over we can just unplug the purple ones and plug in the yellow and have a Thanksgiving tree with orange and yellow lights. How cool is that? 🙂 The kids had fun decorating the tree, and Jeremy is constantly trying to plug the yellow lights in because he really likes the color yellow. 😀
