Combine all dry ingredients; mix well. Cut in shortening and butter until it forms coarse crumbs. Stir in molasses and egg and mix thoroughly. Form 1 inch balls and roll in sugar. Place on cookie sheet 2 inches apart. Bake for 10-12\u00a0 minutes.
