Albert Croaky

At the Albuquerque temple, Kyle pulled a HUGE moth bug out of the fountain. It looked dead and Chloe really thought it was cool, so she wanted to take it home. Somewhere between Albuquerque and Four Corners, Chloe started SCREAMING! We asked her what was wrong, but she didn’t answer and then Tyra and Chloe were both screaming. So we pulled over to find out what was wrong. Turns out that she screamed because the bug moved. So Kyle offered to just let it go in the bushes by the side of the road, but Chloe wanted to see it again. So Chloe and Lydia got out to look at it.

Chloe wouldn’t hear of leaving the bug, and now that she was aware that he could still move she still wanted to take him home. So we got back in the van and continued on our way.

Kyle had been referring to the bug as Croaky, because he was dead. Then he decided that we were going to call it Albert Croaky, because we found him in Albuquerque.

When we got home we put Albert Croaky in a pot of flowers that I had on the porch.

Chloe had to go out front to check on him every day, and most days she had to find him because he would get out of the flower pot. He did eventually end up dying. He never really did recover from being in the fountain.

Chloe lost a tooth

Chloe lost her first tooth. She has already had one visit from the tooth fairy, back when she had a tooth pulled by the dentist, but this is the first time a tooth fell out because it was ready. Look at how confused she looks about all of this!

I really don’t know why Kyle didn’t have her rinse out her mouth before taking the pictures. I guess he thought a bloody mouth would be more impressive…

Chloe’s Sixth Birthday

As soon as Chloe found out that the movie “Inside Out” was coming out ON her birthday, she asked that we go see it for her birthday. And when I asked what kind of cake she wanted, she said “an inside out cake”. I joked around about putting the frosting on the inside and the cake on the outside, but in the end we settled for a pineapple upside down cake. So this has been her Inside out, upside down birthday!

We met Kyle in town early this afternoon to go see Inside Out. We went to the ward bbq after the movie for dinner, then came home for the upside down cake.

The four older kids got watches in their stockings last Christmas and Chloe was quite upset that she didn’t get one, so Kyle picked out a watch for her birthday.

Blast from the Past Girl Scout Day Camp

Tyra, Dinah, Chloe spent the last three days at day camp. I helped out yesterday and today. This year’s theme was “blast from the past”. Wednesday they got to make some bracelets from ancient Egypt, and necklaces from ancient Rome, and they came home with some constellation charts. I really don’t know too much about those activities because I wasn’t there. Yesterday we had activities from the medieval period. They got to participate in a Shakespearean play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream:

I got to help girls with a catapulting game, while my companion supervised the jousting.

Today the girls got to do activities relating to the 1920’s forward. I was at a “20’s games” station so the girls got to play hopscotch and jump rope.

Partway through the day, I was asked to help at the photo-op station. I guess the person taking the pictures for the first part of the day ran out of space on their SD card, and they saw that I had a camera and asked me if I could take over. That was fine with me and it ended up being a good thing because it meant that I got to take the pictures for Tyra’s and Chloe’s groups which also included some of the other girls from my troop. 🙂

Dinah’s group must have had their pictures taken before I was asked to take the pictures. We finished each day with a friendship circle:

The girls had learned the Charleston and practiced it as one of their stations today and after today’s friendship circle the girls got to do it all together.
